2015 Pinot Noir Sojourner Vineyard $36.00/btl
For four decades Evesham Wood worked with Eola Springs Vineyard just over the hill from us on the West side of the Eola Amity Hills. In 2015 Denny and Jim, the long time owners, sold their property to some well known folks from California. Let’s just say the new owners’ style of vineyard management and business was quite a bit different than ours, so 2015 marked the last vintage we worked with Eola Springs fruit. Denny, however had a smaller, younger vineyard just up the hill called Sojourner Vineyard and asked me if I would be interested in working with that fruit. That was a no-brainer as I thought it would be a great addition to our Eola Amity Hills Cuvée bottling. The problem came the following Spring when I was selecting barrels for this wine. There were several barrels from Sojourner that just stood out. Extremely reluctant to add another single vineyard to our lineup, I marked them for the Eola Amity Hills bottling, but put an asterisk on them. Occasionally going back to those barrels I was more impressed each time I tasted them and ultimately knew I just couldn’t blend them away. Berries and subtle savory dark chocolate on the nose with focused acidity while the fruit unfolds over the lengthy finish. 125 cases produced.
