Chardonnay Willamette Valley
In 2019 we once again used fruit from Mahonia Vineyard and a small amount from an Eola-Amity Hills site, Von Oehsen. Fermented and aged in a combination of neutral French oak (228L, Francois Freres) and a new puncheon (450L). While this might seem a significant departure from 2018’s all-neutral program, it works out to a little less than 16% new oak from a format that imparts much less ‘new oak’ profile on the finished wines. Lemon curd, white flowers, brioche with citrus zest and slight creaminess on the the nose followed by a nicely textured mid-palate and bright finish.
